Spring Racing Style Tips with Jack London
We caught up with Jack London‘s head designer, Kate Portararo, to get the scoop on the biggest trends for this Spring Racing Season.
Jack London is the Official Menswear Sponsor for the 2017 Styles on the Straight, and Kate will feature on the judging panel on AAMI Victoria Derby Day.
What are the biggest trends this season?
Jack London delivers effortless cool for SS17. Vintage Hawaiian prints, blown out florals on translucent shirt bases and loose cut linens instantly evoke a sense of endless summer.
Transitional tailoring delivered in tinted neutral tones set the mood for the season ahead. Heavily saturated blues anchor the colour palette in summer, accented by blushing corals, candied blush, swimming pool blue, fire engine reds and touches of canary yellow.
Jack takes split suiting to a new level with youthfully styled sharp tailoring and summer separates. Mismatched textured waistcoats are a must to complete any suit. Build flamboyant racing looks with mismatched three piece suiting, bold printed shirts and colour block blazers.
What’s the difference between a Business Suit and Spring Racing Suit?
A business suit is designed to make the wearer look professional, modern and trustworthy every time you put it on. The spring racing suit is more playful, edgy and colourful. At Jack London we allow our customers to push the boundaries for spring racing. Bold bamboo prints, exploded florals, colourful large scale checks and colour block linens take the centre stage on racing days. For something less statement, but still fresh and modern. We match printed shirts with crisp core suiting and accent with a touch of colour via accessories.
How do you know what colour shoes to pair with your suit?
There are a few basic rules to follow, black suiting is strictly black shoes and your belt colour should always match your shoe colour. Navy suiting can pair back with either black or brown, but it isn’t limited to that at JL – for the more adventurous we have a blue suede penny loafer that looks incredible with navy suiting. For all other suiting colours it really comes down to personal preference.
What are your top tips for accessorizing your Spring Racing Suit?
Be experimental with pocket squares, lapel pins and top off your look with a great hat. Great accessories instantly transform a plain suit into a racing look.
What will you be looking for as a judge?
I will be looking for strong modern looks, clever and interesting accessories. A look that has some WOW factor. I look forward to seeing what the guys put together.
