With the sun coming out just in time for the prestigious race where we saw another European raider Cross Counter take out the win with a great run. Ridden by Sydney-based jockey Kerrin McEvoy, making this his 3rd Melbourne Cup Victory, defeating Marmelo in second place and A Prince Of Arran in third.
This year, the VRC introduced Lexus as the Melbourne Cup Principle Partner. The 5 year sponsorship gives Lexus naming rights to the Melbourne Cup Race, Day, Tour and Parade, along with the headline marquee in the Birdcage Enclosure.
