2018 AAMI (Victoria) Derby Day Wrap Up
A beautiful sunny day brought over 90,000 racegoers to Derby Day at Flemington to kick off the 2018 Spring Carnival.
A flock of racegoers in black and white enjoyed the sun and entertainment in the Home Straight Enclosure‘s large outdoor precinct area, while our caterers, Atlantic Group provided an excellent array of food from their tailored menu for guests to enjoy throughout the day.
Extra Brut took out the AAMI Victoria Derby, winning the $2 million by one length from Star of Carrum and Chapada taking out third. This marks Victoria’s premier trainer Darren Weir and jockey John Allen’s first AAMI Victoria Derby win. British trainer Charlie Fellowes secured a place in the Lexus Melbourne Cup with A Prince of Arran winning the Group 3 Lexus Stakes.
Our third annual Styles on the Straight event saw the traditional black and white Derby Day fashion rule the runway.
Women’s first place was taken out by Jenna Briskey in a Mossman 2-piece co-ord with off the shoulder top and long ruffle skirt, paired with a Morgan and Taylor hat. Michelle in second place wore a white Veronika Maine pant suit and David Jones headpiece. Third place went to another white pant suit from Kookai, worn by Holly Crimmins, wearing a headpiece from Olga Berg.
Men’s first place was won by Paolo Di Russo wearing white tailored pants with a grey suit jacket from Wil Valor. Karl took out 2nd place with a MJ Bale grey tartan jacket and black slacks. In third place wearing a traditional black suit from Joe Black, with white shirt and white tie was Gerry Fagan.
People’s Choice Award went to Danielle Brown wearing a black and white lace Alexis dress and Allport Millinery headpiece.
