2016 Emirates Stakes Day Wrap Up
Concluding the 2016 Melbourne Cup Carnival, Stakes Day racegoers were in for a day full of fun fashion, racing, and entertainment for the whole family. It was an overcast, windy day in Melbourne, but that didn’t stop guests in the Home Straight Enclosure from letting their hair down and enjoying their day.
After indulging on a delectable lunch from Atlantic Catering, our resident band Blush had punters up and dancing. Pretty patterns, fun fascinators and bright colours were all styling stand outs this year. Our Styles on the Straight winner, Laura Marazzi, fit the Stakes Day dress code to a T, looking beautiful in a Review dress, matched with a bright red fascinator – custom made by her florist. For the fourth and final day of the competition, we also added a junior edition for all our little horse lovers.
Over on the other side on the track, an abundance of picture perfect families were assembling at Flemington. We saw matching patterns, miniature bowties, and bright, fun fashion statements.
Onto the racing, the Emirates Stakes was taken out by Awesome Rock, ridden by Stephen Baster, and trained by a Father and Son duo, Team Corstens. Troy Corstens was excited to be celebrating with his Father, calling him a “champion”, while Baster thanked them both saying “Awesome Rock has been a great horse to me and full credit to Leon and Troy”. In an thrilling finish, Hauraki and Seaburge drew second, with Vadamos coming in fourth.
